TLC Summer Party

Finally I am back in the blog world again. My computer had a " nervous" breakdown and left me with no choice but to take a really good break from Twitter, Facebook and blogging. It's been so much fun these past few days, Cami has been enjoying the weather in her little pool and I have been reading a really good book. I even had an early birthday party thanks to my lovely husband and I am ready to face my 36!

Last week, my husband and I took a well deserved night off and went to New York for the TLC Summer Party event.( it turns out that I am part of the TLC Cake Crew along with other fantastic cake/food/cookie blogs ) You can check them out  on their TLC twitter list: http://www.twitter.com/tlc/baking .

Me, not pregnant even if I look like it( my dress didn't do that much for me) and Meghan, one of our group organizer's.
Then here is the cake the Buddy the Cake boss himself! made for the event, it was amazing, super big, full of amazing details and very yummy.
Well I hope you like the pictures.
Have a great week everyone, I am looking forward to catch up with your blogs.

A week in pictures...

First..thank you so much for your sweet comments about the wedding cake, that was very nice of you and I really appreciate the time you spent writing a comment.
Well, I am recovering form a very busy week. I still feel pain on my feet from being up so many hours  baking and decorating. It is really hard to have a full job during the day and a baking little business on the side. But I am happy I can't complain, tired!! but happy.
I also have been working with Jessica on my  business blog design for my clients . I am so happy!! She did more than a blog design for me, I can't wait to show you a sneak peak of the goodies she made for me.
If you need a blog make over, please get on her list, she is a pleasure to work with and the most patient person I have ever work with. She handled my blog identity crisis in the most professional way you can ever imagine.

Well , let's go to the pictures:
This is a little retirement cake I made with a sugar peony topper. The cake is lemon cake with strawberry mousse. Banana cupcakes with peanut butter buttercream and  chocolate ganache filling

Good bye cupcakes, pretty soon you will have the cutest sticker to go with your box.

Corporate cake I made for an anniversary party for a company I used to work for, they are wonderful clients and my friends L and S are always promoting my business.

I also made cookie favors for  a precious little girl's Christening.

We also got some goodies from Costa Rica, well I didn't get anything, but Cami had fun getting her lollipops out of the bag. I am so proud of my family, they make every effort to be present in Cami's every day life.
Greens+blue Cheese+apples+cranberries+dry apricot+cherry dressing=LOVE
And this is work in progress...it will be a great Elmo cake topper for a little boy's first birthday party.Have a wonderful week everyone, full of healthy food and lots of baking

Black and White Wedding Cake

Happy Monday everyone, here are some pics of the wedding cake I made 2 weeks ago. My first time making a wedding cake and these Casablanca Lillies. I delivered the cake to Liberty House Restaurant in NJ.
Congratulations Sam and Lindsey!
The ceremony was outside the restaurant, just look at this magnificent Manhattan view.
This is how I carried the flowers on my lap on our way there.
And then, this. Cami wasn't allow on my work area, daddy was baby sitting ( and watching a soccer game at the same time), here she is upset because I told her that she need it to go back with daddy.
Have a wonderful week.

Forgot this: Sometimes I get emails with criticism about my job, bad critiscism!
So just in case, yes, the flowers are not botanically correct. I know.

COVERING A CAKE BOARD WITH ROLLED FONDANT

I like to keep a large variety of cake boards on hand. For most of my cakes I like to cover the  boards with fondant because it makes them look like it belongs with your cake.
I cover my cake boards at least 2 or 3 days ahead, to make sure the fondant is well set before I place the cake on top.
If you want to cover your cake board with fondant you will need:

-Fondant
-Confectioners sugar for dusting
-Water or piping gel
-Thick cake board of the required size
-Pastry brush
-Rolling pin
-Fondant smoother
-Turn table
-Small exacto knife
-Ribbon of your choice
-Glue gun
-Metal ruler or tape measure

You can make your own thick cake board using 3 thin cake boards
-
Just glue them together making sure they
lie completely flat on the table
You can also use store bought foil cake board, which is what I used in this case because it was the exact size I needed for my cake.

-Dust your cake board thinly with confectioners sugar and brush it with a little water, to make a glue for the fondant. If you don't want to do that just brush a small amount of piping gel on the cake board.
-Roll out the fondant to about 1/4 inch thick and large enough to cover the cake board.

-Using the rolling pin, lift the fondant and lay it over the cake board
-Using your fondant smoother glide over the surface of the fondant and push out any air bubbles.

- Place the cake board on top of the turn table and
trim the excess off with the exacto knife.
-Set the cake board aside to dry for 1 or 2 days
- Once the fondant is dry, attach the ribbon around the
edge of the board with your glue gun.

And LISTO!!

You are going to have a beautiful fondant covered cake board.

Candyland Cake

Candyland Cake I made for a baby shower. These pictures I took them at night right before I store the cake in the delivery box. So at  this point is not quite Candyland. The cake also had lots of candy and lollipops to be put on location.
I did not deliver the cake, so my client was going to take care of the final decorations., hopefully I will get more pictures. I also made 2 dozen of cupcakes. The cake and the cupcakes were red velvet cake.
This is the invitation for the event.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

The best moment in my life, when I got to hold my baby for the first time.
I still don't know how did we get here. But this little girl is my inspiration and motivation for everything I do.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL OF YOU!

Mini Pink Elephant Cake

Happy Monday everyone! A quick post to show you this little pink elephant cake I made this week. I wasn't sure about the color combination that my client chose, but at the end I think it turn out kind of cute. For next week I have some wonderful cakes to show, well, at least I hope they will turn out beautiful ...
I am totally prepared to be up every night of this week baking and  making sugar decorations.  For the details on the polka dots I rolled the fondant out to 1/8' and  stamped onto the fondant with a small flower scrapbooking stamp. Once I had the pattern on the fondant, I just used a small circle cutter to cut the polka dots. I I made the elephant with a mix of gumpaste and fondant and then I dusted it with pink luster dust. Well I hope you like it, have a sweet week everyone.
