Chevron Girly Cookies

Teacher’s appreciation week is coming up and Mother’s Day is around the corner, the perfect excuse to make some girly cookies.

For these cookies I picked some of my favorite cutters over at the The Cookie Cutter Company website, make sure you check them out because they have plenty of cookie cutters designs for you to choose from.

The design of these cookies is very simple and black, red and white are one of my favorite color combinations.
I am sure you have seeing the Chevron patter in a lot of parties and sweets lately, I just think is so elegant. The Chevron pattern is a bold pattern made with a series of Vs laid out in a row, this look it's certainly one that I need to try in some of my cakes.

To make these cookies you will need the following cookie cutters:

you will also need the following supplies:

.Royal icing in white, red and black (stiff for outlining and details and also flood consistency)

.Black ribbon for decorations ( you can also make the ribbon with icing if you prefer)
.Tip #1 and #2
.Squeeze bottles
.Couplers and decorating bags
.Wilton Silver food safe spray paint
.Paper napkins

Making the lipstick and the hair dryer (because a girl can’t leave without them right?):

Start outlining and flooding the cookies as shown in the pictures. Let the cookies set for a few minutes before flooding the rest of the lipstick cookies with the white icing. Let the cookies dry overnight if possible.  ( ups!! disregard the black lipstick, I was on testing mode)

After the cookies are completely dry, place a piece of paper tower in the middle of the lipstick cookies and using the silver spray, spray paint the bottom part of the lipstick cookies and the hair dryer. Let cookies dry.

Add detail to the cookies with black icing and tip #1.

Outline and flood cookies

Making the bag

Making the hat

Pipe two black lines using tip #1 to add detail to the hat. I attached the ribbon bow with a dot of icing (you can always make the bow using icing instead of the ribbon)

To make the slippers, after I flooded the cookie with white icing, I filled the empty spaces with black icing and tip #1. I set the cookies aside to dry and then I attached the bow.

well, what do you think? pretty easy right?
Have a great weekend everyone.

Black Heel Shoe-Shoe Box Cake

After a week working on this shoe, I finally got to see the finished cake come together this past weekend. So much work, but when you see the cake finish and a smile in your client's face is definitely worth it.
The best part is that I didn't have to deliver the cake, which is always so stressful.

See this little broche? I applied every single dragee using twizers, I attached them with piping gel.

This picture doesn't make any justice, but the high heel I made it with modeling chocolate, I used the recipe in Meaghan's book Sugarlicious and I was very pleased with the texture and the flexibility of it. After I made the heel, I let it rest for a few hours and them I covered in black gumpaste.

Well, let me know what you think.

Cars Theme Cake

Happy Monday! we are having a wonderful weather here in Central Jersey, lots of birthday parties going around and of course that brings, lots of cakes. This is another Cars theme cake for a little boy.
Her mom gave me a picture of a two tier cake she saw online and wanted me to make something similar, similar meaning she pretty wanted the same cake.
They were having a small family birthday party, and a two tier cake feeds way more than 30 people, so this is the small version.

The cake is covered in fondant, I bought the fondant already colored.
The signs are made with gumpaste and attached to the cake with wire.

My client gave me the cars to put on the cake and I attached them with royal icing

Full disclosure: How many desings can you really make on a cars cake? race tracks, signs, lights.
I looked for the original source of the cake picture given by my client online and didn't get a result.
If you have seen it, please let me know and I will update.

Pink and Lavander Birthday Cookies

Happy Wednesday!
The past few nights I have working like crazy making sugar decorations for a few fun cakes due this weekend.
One of the cakes will be a shoe box with a very sex black shoe that I just finished last night, here is pic that I tweed while I was working on it. Can't wait to finish the whole thing. Those big cakes not only are very time consuming but very stressful.

well, onto these cookies.

I made this set of cookies for a sweet little girl turning 2 years old.
She has a sweet tooth for cookies ( who doesn't) and her favorite colors are pink and lavender.
I made the same design as these cookies.

Elmo Cake with small Elmo cake topper

The always popular Elmo cake for first birthday parties.
 Who doesn't love Elmo?
I hope little Niko had a great time at his party.

Elmo was made with fondant, it was a small cake topper so no need for gumpaste.

I used two size of stars and round cutters and a cookie cutter for the number 1.

My Egg Issues and a Sugarlicious Book Giveaway

The major Easter issue I have is that I do not get the concept of bunnies and eggs together. When I moved here years ago, I kept seeing eggs all over the place around Easter time, I asked and asked around why eggs? I never got an answer. Now I just go with the flow and enjoy making Easter baskets for my little girls, including lots of eggs of course.

I also have other issues... like a 4 year old splashing water on my cookies before taking pictures of them for the blog. But that's another story.

And since I haven't had a giveaway in a few months I thought this was the perfect time to
giveaway my friend Meaghan's book, Sugarlicious.

I am totally assuming you already have it, but you always can get an extra copy for a friend or family member right?

I am including other goodies in the giveaway too.
But first you might have to put up with my water tinted cookie pictorial.

and there are some eggs that just want to run away....

Sprinkles, lollipops and marshmallows will come with the book.
You know how talented Meaghan is with marshmallows, and her book is full of very easy to follow instructions not only to make super cute marshmallow pops but also cupcakes, cookies
and my new favorite ...candy clay.
Whether you are a beginner or a pro in the sweets departments, this book is for you.

See what I am saying...totally adorable.

So, what do you have to do to win this giveaway?

Very simple, just leave me a comment telling me what are you cooking for Easter
Since I will be home alone with the girls, I like to torture myself thinking in what others are doing with their families.

For extra entries:
post the giveaway on Facebook or Twitter

Giveaway will be closed on Easter Sunday at midnight. Winner will be announce in this post on Monday April 9th.
Winner has 48 hours to respond after being notified before another winner is drawn

Good luck and Happy Easter!

The winner is here!!! Congratulations Natalie and thank you everyone for entering the giveaway, I had a great time reading all the yummy things you were going to make on Easter.

Natalie said... I'm cooking nothing for Easter.
But I will bring a roast chicken to my mother in laws because I don't like ham.

Cookie Love-Sponsored Post by GourmetGiftBaskets.com

It’s certainly no secret: everyone loves cookies. Name one person you know who’s revolted at the mention of Oreos or hides when Girl Scouts come to take their annual cookie order. I tried – I don’t know any. Cookies are a global indulgence. They’re sent with love in gift baskets, brought to doorsteps to welcome new neighbors, and are still handed out at parties, weddings and showers. But not all of us have the knack for making the perfect cookie. I’ve pulled charred, wafer-thin crisps out of my oven more times than I care to admit. But after talking with others, I found that I’m not the only person with a cookie handicap.
So, no matter part of the cookie process stumps you, rest assured that these tips will help you turn out delicious dozens:

T.L.C.
Mix a little love into your dough, that is to say, treat it lovingly. If you’re furious, fed up, and/or peeved, it’ll show in your dough. It’s okay to not have liquid smooth cookie dough. Actually, it’s preferred.

Keep it Cool
Dough can be like that mess in the Cat in the Hat: it gets everywhere. It sticks to the spatula, then the spoon, then your fingers, then the spoon again, and eventually (let’s face it), your mouth. Stick the dough in fridge and you’ll be mess-free.

Kitchen Fairy Dust
Also known as flour, is pretty magical. Don’t you hate it when all you can show for your afternoon off is some sad, flat chars that were supposed to be cookies? Sprinkle your pan with some flour before you put them in the oven to keep the spreading to a minimum. Putting the dough in the fridge before hand, as indicated above will help with this too.

The Tin Man
If there was a superhero in my life, it would probably be tin foil. No matter how many cookie sheets I buy, I always seem to only have one or two on hand, and this is where tin foil comes in. [Clarion.] Make cookie sheets out of tin foil and place them on top of the actual ones. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, remove the tin foil with cookies on it and run the pan under water. Then place a new layer of tin foil (dough balls already to go) on top of the cookie sheet. Voila! Cookie time in no time.

Wonder(ful) Bread
Having trouble keeping those cookies soft? Store them with bread or apple slices, which will donate moisture to your creations, keeping them gooey for whoever steals cookies from the jar.
