Super Hero Cupcakes and Cookie Favors-How to make Super Hero Cupcake toppers

I am always thrilled when I have to make cookies , cupcakes or cakes for boy's birthday parties. Having two girls, I find myself making pretty much girly stuff all the time.

I made these Super Hero Cookie favors and cupcakes for a Super Hero theme party. It was my first time making Super Hero Cookies and cupcake toppers, I know there is always room for improvement but I really like how they turned out.

I used my trusty kopykake to ice the cookies and also to decorate the Super Hero cupcake toppers.

The cupcake toppers turned out just like the cookies.

If you want to make your own Super Hero Cupcake toppers, here is how I made mine

You will need:

white and egg yellow fondant (or gumpaste)
tylose powder
small rolling pin and fondant mat
powder sugar
shortening
templates of the Super Hero logos ( I got mine online and re size them to the size I needed them)
pairing knife
royal icing with the colors of the Super Hero logos

-I didn't have gumpaste, and for cupcake toppers like these I always recommend using gumpaste instead of fondant, so I mixed 1 teaspoon of Tylose Powder with my fondant. I mixed them together using a little bit of shortening.
-I colored the white fondant with Wilton egg yellow color and let the fondant rest for a little

-Now, roll your fondant to about 1/4 inch thick and place it in the refrigerator for 5 minutes, the fondant will harden a little which will make it easier for you to cut the shapes of the Super Hero logos.

-After you have cut all the shapes, put them in a baking sheet on parchment paper and let them get dry overnight.

-Then using your kopykake, outline and fill the logos of each Super Hero logo. If you do not have a kopykake, just work around the fondant base ( round or oval) and use the template and food markers as guide.

When they are all done, carefully, put them back in the baking sheet and let them get dry for at least 24 hours.

This is how they look on the cupcakes. You want the cupcake toppers to be completely dry before putting them on the cupcakes, if they are not dry, I ensure you they will lose their shape.

Here is a picture of the cookies already wrapped and ready to go to make someone really happy.

So, what do you think? easy to make? share some pictures with me if you make your own.
Have a great weekend!!

Mini Tea Party cake, cookies and cupcakes

This little tea theme cake is only 4", I made it for the top of a cupcakes tower I create it for a friend's little girl birthday party.

The cupcakes were chocolate with vanilla buttercream.
I made lots of mini cupcakes toppers in shapes of cupcakes and mini cakes, I loved how they turned out, so tiny and cute.

Of course, cookie favors are a must in every party.

Simple tea cups, cupcakes and tea pots were perfect for the children to take home.

Cami's cupcake tower- party recap.

I planned Camilla's party for a few weeks, worked on her cake, bought her cupcake tower and dreamed of her having the greatest time of her life.
I also dreamed of having the greatest time of my life knowing I wasn't going to cook or clean my house for her party.

Well, things not always happen the way we want...
The day before her party she fell playing ghost at home. She cut her lower lip, inside and out, by cut I mean she sliced her lip open! blood everywhere,I actually thought she broke all her teeth.
We rushed her to the Children's Hospital emergency room, they took us in immediately and in a matter of minutes the doctors told us that the cut was deep and  require stitches.
The cut was where the facial skin meets her lips, it was extremely difficult to match it back up, which can lead to scarring. She also had bruses on her upper gums and a hole inside her lip.

She needed to be strap, sedated on her lip area, etc ahhhhhhhh I felt like I was in a horror movie, the one where you see your baby in the worse pain ever and there is nothing you can do. Yep, that one!

The day of the party I had to bring her in to the doctor again because she was very swollen and I was paranoid of her getting an infection. ( thoughts included her loosing her lip, not having a mouth and anything bad that could come into my mind)

Needless to say, the party was a disaster...she had fun for about 20 minutes and then she cried the entire time,we hold her as much as we could, we knew she was in pain.
If you are asking yourself why we didn't cancel the party, we did think about doing it, but she wanted the party so bad and she would have been heartbroken without her party.

This picture is the best we could do.

Today Cami is feeling better, she is able to actually open her mouth and eat. Stitches are out and we are just waiting for her to heal before Kindergarten starts in a few weeks.

Do you have kids? any accidents before a big event?

Butterfly Cookies and Cupcakes

Last week I posted the cake I made for our little friend Sophie.
These are the cookies I also made to give out as party favors.
Simple butterfly cookies with bright colors.

I didn't have time to make tags for the cookies, so I just tie the cello bags with a tick ribbon.
All the cupcakes were vanilla buttermilk with a fluffy vanilla icing, very simple but yet delicious.
These flowers were leftover flowers that I had from this cake.
These little flowers I made them using a small flower cutter.
I hope you all have a great week!

Snowflake Cupcakes-Georgetown Cupcake Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting

I finally got my copy of "The Cupcake Diaries", the book from the sisters at Georgetown Cupcakes. I was very excited to try their  famous cream cheese vanilla frosting. I have to say that it was really good, I was just a bit surprise about the instructions in their book about how to make the frosting. The directions pretty much were to place all the ingredients in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and  beat until well combined.

I can't imagine doing something like that ,specially if you are using Plugra butter, like they do. Also, if you watch this video, they are not making the buttercream like the book said.

Oh well, I guess I am just being picky! I love the frosting any way, I just made it the traditional way.

Georgetown Cupcake Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
4 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature

Directions:

Beat butter and cream cheese with a mixer with the paddle attachment on medium speed. Turn your mixer to low speed and add the confectioner sugar 1/2 cup at the time and mix until light and fluffy.
Increase mixer speed to medium and add vanilla extract.

Draw snowflakes in the parchment paper, melt candy melts and pipe them. Let them dry for at least one hour or put them in the refrigerator before adding the sanding sugar.

Turn snowflakes upside down and brush them with a mix of Meringue Powder and water, then sprinkle them with the sanding sugar.

Happy Wednesday!

Easter Chicks Cupcake Toppers

My little girl loves to play with play dough, she actually calls it cake, since she sees me working with gumpaste or fondant when I make cake details, she really thinks play dough is fondant. She already knows is a special kind that we don't eat, and believe me, I have tried to explain her the proper name but it hasn't worked so far.

This mini cupcakes toppers are inspired by my little girl's love for her "cake dough". They are very simple and easy to make, they would be a great addition to Easter Sunday kid's treats table.

Bake and frost your cupcakes using your favorite recipe and frosting. Dress your cupcakes with cupcakes wrappers, I found mine at Bake it Pretty.

All the mini chicks are made pretty much the same, oval shapes for the body and hand shape beak and comb.

To make the chicks toppers you will need:

-Fondant in colors of your choice.
-Mini Cupcake pan
-Round cookie cutter ( I used a scallop one)
-Brush ( to dip in water and attach the "body parts" )
-Small rolling pin
-Black food writer ( I only had blue, so that's what I used)
-Ball tool ( optional)
-Modeling stick ( I used it to make the holes in the chick's head, you can also do it using a tooth pick)
