Please enjoy this AWESOME,  Franken-Crunch to Much ( I just adore this name)

Hi everyone!  My name is Sue and my blog is Munchkin Munchies:)  I can't tell you how happy and honored I am to be participating in Kathia's Halloween Mini Series.  There have been so many fantastic bloggers featured so far!  I love having all of these great ideas in one place!   Pink Little Cakes is one of my favorite blogs and I am so grateful that Kathia  has given me this wonderful opportunity!

Most everyone likes Rice Krispie Treats and I thought I would make a family size treat for some Halloween fun! I adapted this idea from a recipe I saved from Woman's World magazine years ago (Oct. '02).

Isn't he sweet?  I had so much fun watching "Frank" come to life:) He's simple and fun to make. I'm sure  kids of all ages will have a great time helping out with this kitchen craft!

Franken-Crunch to Munch (adapted)
Ingredients:
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • Wilton Leaf Green food coloring paste (about a 1/4 teaspoon)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies (or other rice cereal)
  • 1small tube black decorating icing
  • 5 black licorice bites
  • 1 1/2 large marshmallows
  • 2 blue M&M's (or other candy)
  • 2 pieces white Chiclets type gum
  • 2 2" pieces cut from a thick pretzel stick
  • 2 large gumdrops
  • 1 pouch grape fruit roll up*

* I wanted the purple and couldn't find it anywhere so ended up using the only purple gummy candy I could find, that would work- a gummy tongue:) I flattened it out with a rolling pin and cut it with kitchen scissors to look like Frank's hair.

Coat  8" square baking pan with cooking spray.  In pot melt butter over low heat.  Stir in marshmallows; cook, stirring, until melted. Tint mixture green with food coloring; remove from heat.  Coat inner sides of pot with cooking spray so cereal won't stick; stir in cereal until combined.  Spray hands with cooking spray; press mixture into pan.  Cool 1 hour.  Turn out onto platter.

For the face: For the eyebrow, use icing to attach licorice bites along forehead. For eyes, vertically cut 1 marshmallow in half; with icing attach about 1" apart below brow.  For pupils, with icing attach M&M's to eyes.  For mouth, use icing and fashion a mouth to your liking. Attach gum below for teeth. Using a knife, cut a hole in the bottom of each gumdrop; insert pretzels. Cut holes near bottom of each side of head; gently press pretzels with gumdrops into holes.  For nose, pinch sides of remaining half marshmallow to form triangle, as shown; attach between eyes.  For scars, use icing. For hair, horizontally fold fruit roll(*note substitute above) in half; cut into triangles.  Arrange triangles along top edge. Ta da!  Meet Frank!

Happy Halloween!

Thank you Sue for your sweet idea!

I look at these baking sites with admiration! I'm not very "kitchen-y" and can't imagine even trying most of the stuff that I see...until today! I can handle Rice Krispies! :-)

Frank is adorable! I much prefer "friendly" Halloween treats to scary ones, so this is perfect!
