One of my favorite cakes up to date.

This is a fun wedding cake with a Disney twist. The couple love Disney and one of their favorite characters is Stitch, they wanted him on the cake.
So here is my take !

Watercolor Painted Thanksgiving Theme Cookies

Happy Friday! Can't wait for this week to be over. I haven't baked cakes in 2 weeks and I still get up at 4 AM every day and can't sleep pass that time.  This weekend I am planning on a few naps with the kids, the weather is certainly allowing some nap time and I better catch up some because next week I have a lot of cake order to fulfill.

For this month's tutorial for The Cookie Cutter Company I gave it a try painting on cookies, I am not that talented with brushes, but I actually enjoyed it and the cookies turned out cute. I loved this project, I think is a great idea to have it with kids and let their imaginations fly and paint anything they want. For sure this activity will go in my to do list for Christmas vacation.

I used a Vintage Style Thanksgiving Cookie Cutter set, this cutters might look odd to cut cookies with but don’t be intimidated by the style of the cutter at all.

I used a well chilled cookie dough, I dipped the cutters in flour before cutting the cookies and I didn't have any issues at all.

Now let's gather supplies and start painting away

Vintage Style Thanksgiving Cookie Cutter set

Americolor white royal icing
Tip #2, disposable bag and coupler
Lemon extract and a mix of small brushes
Americolor food coloring brown, mint green and yellow
Gold luster dust
Disposable containers to mix the colors

Let's beging with a  few pointers for watercolor painting on cookies:

-Most people mix the food color with water , I like to use a small amount of lemon extract and paint without being worried about destroying the cookie surface.
Cookies and water are not really like best friends and to be honest, I tried with water and the royal icing started looking funny
-Use a good mix of small brushes, they can be  flat, round, thin or thick brushes. This gives the cookie a different texture.
-Play with colors. Add a few drops of lemon extract and just one of food color to get a pastel color, mix other colors to create a blended look, add more food coloring than lemon extract and you will get a great dark color.
-Use the tip of the brush to create dots, make big or small strokes, outline the cookies with gold or silver for extra details.  The possibilities are endless and there is no way for mistakes because you pretty much can go wrong with these cookies. Meaning if I can do it, so can you!

Now let's pain and have some fun!

Decorating the cookies:

Add a few drops of lemon extract to the disposable containers and a few drops of the colors of your choice.
Mix the colors and paint away!  Yes, that easy!

Keep some paper tower handy to clean your brush and control the intensity of the color before painting on the cookie.

Outline and flood your cookies

Make sure you let your cookies dry over night, they have to be completely dry before you paint on them.

Acorn  Cookies

Dip your brush in the brown paint and paint the stalk and the cupule of the acorn making strokes in different directions
Then paint the nut
I love adding gold to cookies, this particular luster dust is called “Diamond Gold” and I just love it!

Peach and Gold Baptism Cake

Wow! This was a heavy cake!!
This pleated fondant look is so pretty, but definitely the use of so much fondant for the pleat adds a lot of weigh to the cake. I made little fondant dots and attached them to the cake and then I air brush the entire 2nd tier in bright gold.

The fantasy sugar flower I made it days in advance using gumpaste, I then added a little touch of gold using a fine brush.

Sophia The First Birthday Cake and Cookies

I am loving this color palette, having 2 girls soft pastels are my colors.
I made this cake and cookies for a great client of mine, her little girl loves Sophia The First TV show and of course the party was around that theme.

This Sophia The First Birthday cake was inspired by Sophia's  dress and include a handmade white sugar tiara, all gumpaste, since fondant doesn't really dry hard enough to keep the
Princess tiara standing.

I love how the Princess tiara turned out, I have a tutorial and  you can find it here

The cookie favors to match the Sophia The First theme included tiaras, dresses, the age of the little girl, birthday cake and pendants.

Dolphin and Surfboard Cookies

Saying good bye to Summer is hard, we had the most amazing time this year and with my kids growing every year just keep getting better and better.

Next week is finally going back to school. I am happy, excited and nervous all at the same time. I am looking forward to go back to the school and work schedule /routine and I think the girls are ready too.  My little E is not to excited about her last year of Pre-K, hopefully she will get use to it pretty soon.

Any way, for this month's blog post for The Cookie Cutter Company I made some fun Dolphin and Surf board Cookies. I guess I am hanging into summer pretty bad with these.

I haven't been baking a lot this summer and I certainly haven't made royal icing in a while, so I used fondant as an easy way to decorate these dolphin and surfboard cookies

I made this race car theme cake for a special little boy, I have been making cakes for this
family for many years now.
All the details of the cake matched the party invitation, I love the color combo of red, black and light blue.

 Everything else is fondant.

Mexican Fiesta Theme Cake

 Happy Wednesday!
Wow, I haven't been around in so long. Times goes by so fast and I have being spending my free days and time with my girls. This Summer has been fantastic, lots of little trips, fun play dates with new friends and doing a lot of activities with the girls.

Right now I am taking some time off from baking, the last few months were so busy with lots of orders that I really needed some time off to recharge.

I have made such a fun cakes , lots of colors and different designs.

For this post I am sharing this fun and colorful Mexican Fiesta Theme cake complete with a cake topper piñata.

The piñata was made using rice crispy treats and fondant, all the other decorations were a combination of fondant and gumpaste.

This Mexican man was one of my favorite details on the cake, I am assuming he had way too much tequila and was taking a nap!

Here is the complete cake ! Hope you like it!
