Race Car Theme 1st Birthday Cake

I made this race car theme cake for a special little boy, I have been making cakes for this
family for many years now.
All the details of the cake matched the party invitation, I love the color combo of red, black and light blue.
The #1 cake topper and the flags are made with gumpaste for stability.
 Everything else is fondant.

Nautical/Mini Crab theme birthday cake

What a fun cake was this one to make! I have said it before, I love making colorful cakes, and this is a color palette that I adore.
I have made a similar cake before, just smaller, and my client wanted something similar, just bigger. Well, bigger is always better.

The details on the cake were made with a mix of fondant and tylose to make them a little extra firm, but not too hard.
I made the boat with gumpaste days in advance the delivery date to make sure it was going to be completely dry the day I need it.
I like using candy melts to attach big cake toppers to my cakes.

This is the smash cake I made for the little boy.

Frozen Theme Cake

It is not a secret that Disney is squeezing the life out of the movie Frozen. For Halloween I lost count of all the Elsas that came trick or treating. Every where you go, Frozen is there, even in water bottles!!

At home I didn't scape the Frozen fever and my girls jumped in the same wagon as all the girls out there. Cami loves Elsa and Em loves Anna.

Em was actually a cute Anna for Halloween thanks to that adorable cape a blogger friend of mine made.

Any way, I made this Frozen theme cake for a little girl's birthday party. The toys were provided by my client, and I used special snowflake cutters to add more movement and details to the cake.

Elsa look pretty sassy on top of the cake!!!

Do you have any Frozen fans at home?

Sophia the First inspired Birthday Cake

Oh my goodness, I can't believe is November already !
Time sure flies by. Around here we had a wonderful Halloween, as you can imagine, we are still recovering form the almost sugar coma we had last Friday.

Any way, today I have this little cake to show you, 6 inch round chocolate cake filled with oreos and cream. The birthday girl loves Sophia de First and this cake is inspired by Sophia's dress. I added the sugar tiara for a more Princess feeling.

You can find a tutorial for the tiara here in my blog.

Carnival Theme Cake & GIVEAWAY- Cake Decorating Bakery Business Management Excel Software Spreadsheet

Today not only I have a cute cake to show you
but also a fabulous giveaway from ExpressExcel Shop on Etsy that I am sure you would love.

First let me show you this Carnival theme cake that I made to celebrate a little boy's birthday.
I loved how the bear sitting on the ball turned out and the pop corn on the bottom tier is actually real. I figure is was better to eat real pop corn than modeled fondant pop corn!

I used an online letter font template and my trusty kopykake to write the little boy's name on the plaque.

For cakes using bright and primary colors I always recommend buying the fondant already colored, is very time consuming color fondant and the colors do not turn out as good as they should be!

Now for the GIVEAWAY.... let me show you some screen shots of this

Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat theme cake

This Cat in the Hat theme cakes is one of my favorite cakes that I have ever made. It has it all, colorful, big, tall and full of details.

The Cat in the Hat and stars were handmade using gumpaste
I made the white base cut outs for Thing 1 and 2 using gumpaste, I let the cut outs dry for about 3 days and them using my trusty kopykate I traced and filled the figures of Thing 1 and 2 to match the party invitation.

Do you like colorful and busy looking cakes?

Butterfly Theme Cake and Cookies Favors

Well, Spring is here and little by little we are getting warmer weather. I am sure we all are in a better mood to party, at least I am!
I have been getting more and more inquiries for birthday parties goodies and
most of them have been for butterfly themes.
This cake I made it just a few weeks ago, simple and clean butterflies adorning the top of the tier and the name of the birthday girl.
I made the butterflies in two sizes using some PMA cutters I got at Global Sugar Art a long time ago.

Butterfly cookie favors complemented the cake and décor.

These are my favorite butterflies, I love the color combo and simplicity of the cookie design.

Hot Air Balloon Cake and Cookies

I had the best time making this Hot Air Balloon Cake.
The color palette was just so colorful!  teal, coral, yellow, white and baby blue all combined were perfect. This little boy celebrating his 1st year certainly had a great party.
I used this Hot Air Balloon cookie cutter to make the Hot Air Balloons floating on the cake. Unfortunately, I do not have a cloud cutter yet, so I hand cut them.
The details in the balloons were made with royal icing.

I used a Wilton letter mold to make his name.

And of course, you can't have a Hot Air Balloon Cake without matching
 Hot Air Balloon cookie favors.
These cookies turned out so pretty.
This cookie cutter is 6.25" big, which gives you a lot of room to play around with your design.

Do you like matching the cake and cookies favors for birthday parties?
or you are more of a goody bag gal?

Simple Circus Theme Cake

Last weekend we celebrated the 3rd birthday of one of our friend's little girl. .
This year the theme was circus, so obviously a circus cake was in order to make. As much as I wanted to make a circus tent, which I think is a must in all circus cakes I really didn't have the time to go that way. I was making a very detail engagement cake that really took more time to make than I expected.

Any way, I decided to make a rustic buttercream cake with details of colorful sprinkles around it.

And as much as I am against performances of animals in a real life circus, what is a circus cake without some cute sugar animals??.
I have to say that this Seal Lion is one of my favorites.

This is a mix of lion and bear, I couldn't get either one :)

And this little hippo dancer turned out too cute!!!
Happy Tuesday!!

Dinosaur Cake

 Fun an colorful Dinosaur cake!
The client sent me the picture of the cake she had in mind, she also asked me if I had made a dinosaur before, mmm no really! was my answer, but if you trust me, I am sure I can pull it off. ( I truly recommend not to say this, unless you are really sure you can make it)

The Dinosaur body is made using rice krispy treats, I used styrofoam for the head thinking that it was going to be too heavy if I made it using RKT.
All details were made with gumpaste, except the "grass" which was Royal icing

I do really appreciate a nice tail!
I hope I made this little boy happy!!!

Blush Pink Bird House Baptism Cake

I made this blush pink bird house cake for a 1st birthday and Baptism celebration a few weeks ago.
The original design is by someone else, the mom sent me the picture of the cake and I was more than happy to make it as close looking as possible.

I love how the little bird house turned out. I made it with rice krispy treats and gumpaste.
For the birds, I ordered this Ateco Plain Coma cutter , it comes in different sizes and seems very useful for other cake design details. I made the tree template myself.

I am not too fond of using fabric ribbon on cakes, but this was pretty simple and thin
and it end up looking cute rather than bulky.
