August Marbled Cake for The Cake Slice Bakers

I have been baking with The Cake Slice Bakers on and off for quite some time. I promise myself to be more consistent as this is a great opportunity to try new recipes.

At this moment we our current book is Great Cakes – Carole Walter. Each month we have a choice of four recipes to bake, which is a great idea so you do not feel that you have to bake something that you are not really in the mood for.

Any way, this month I choose to bake the Marbled Cake, this cake should really be bake in a bundt cake pan, but I didn't have mine on hand so I opted to bake the cake in an 8 inch round cake pan.

I have always love the combination of yellow cake with chocolate cake, this particular recipe has a tender and light crumb that is perfect for your morning or afternoon coffee.
I am not a fond of very sweet tasting cakes, so instead of using a chocolate glazed to drizzle over the cake, I just dusted mine with a little bit of confectioner's sugar.

The recipe doesn't disappoint, I will sure make it again.

Lemon Velvet Squares for the Cake Slice Bakers

I am finally back baking for pleasure with my baking group, The Cake Slice Bakers.
This month's cake is Lemon Velvet Squares, page 138 from the book Great Cakes by Caroline Walter.

I am a lemon lover, always have been, always will be. A good lemon cake, frosting or dessert brings me great memories of my home country, good weather and summer. Something that I am really craving these days.

I really enjoyed making and eating this cake. Fresh grated lemon and orange rind as well as fresh juices makes a big difference in the taste of the cake.  If you want more of a lemon kick you can coat the cake with a lemon glaze, I opted for a lightly dust of confectioner's sugar.
For sure I will be making this cake again.

Applesauce Spice Cake-Cake of the month with The Cake Slice Bakers

I am excited to be baking again with The Cake Slice Bakers and this month we are baking a cake from our brand new baking book.
  Great Cakes from Carole Walter.

I have to be honest and say that when I first got the book I wasn't too thrilled about it. This book is lacking a good amount of pictures and I am a very visual person with a deep love for beautiful finished cakes.
After a quick reading I realized that there are a lot of really good cake recipes and
I am looking forward to try them.

This month's cake is Applesauce Spice Cake, page 194

The cake recipe includes grated apples ( I actually chopped mine) and apple sauce, add to that toasted pecans and the flavor and texture is really good.
It is hard to tell in the picture, but the cake has a Brown Sugar Glaze which turned out really good despite my dislike for sugary glazes.
