Lavander Birthday Cake

I created this lavender cake for my dear friend Lauretta, she is my best costumer so far, she always nice and polite, eats my cakes with no complains ( even if they are dry, like the one I made last week). Tha's my girl! The cake wasn't for her, it was for her cousin, they wanted a French style cake, since I have no clue what french style means my friend got me a picture of a cake and this is as close as I was able to get ( to the pic, maybe not the style). I don't know if it has the style they were looking for, but what I can say is that I had so much fun creating the gumpaste flowers and the bow. Inside the cake is one layer vanilla cake and one layer chocolate with vanilla bean buttercream. I also made 16 cupcakes using the same flavors, no French Style though!! I attached the loops to a piece of gumpaste. I also used royal icing to make them stayed firmer.

Double Birthday Cake

This cake is one layer dark chocolate cake, one layer vanilla cake ( wish unfortunately turn out a little dry) and vanilla butter cream. This ruffle border was pretty hard to accomplish. It is way too war from the one I learned to make at my past class with Collette Peters. The fondant should be very thin and you have to work very quickly. I little hard for me to do. Not to mention that is uneven.

My hand writing is pretty shaky all the time, so I am particularly proud of this one.

Gumpaste Flowers

I am getting ready for a Birthday cake that I have to decorate on Friday night. Here I made some loops for a bow. Then I wanted to practice some of my unknown gumpaste skills. These are my first roses. Of course, they are not botanically correct, but I will get there (some day..maybe?). I will be taking some classes with Ruth Drennan next month. I am very excited, she is very famous for her gumpaste flowers and one of the starts of "Amazing Wedding Cakes' in We channel.

Here the roses/unknown flowers are drying. I will paint them with pearl luster dust once they are completely dry.

Cupcakes Galore

I haven't had time to breath, rest or do anything fun. But of course I had to bake these yummy cupcakes to take to the city tomorrow for the girls at the Embassy. I am taking my tests tomorrow, so I am going to start biting my nails.

Am I Going To Survive?

This week will be completely crazy. Work all day Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday only half a day and Thursday I have to go to the city to take my test. Saturday recover...

Book Lover Birthday Cake

I have been working on a project for quite some time. One of my good friend's birthday was this week and she loves books, she is really smart and she pretty much knows everything. I thought it will be a great idea making a cake book, well it turn out that she is not a fondant lover, so I did change my strategy for something a little more simple. I bake a 7" chocolate cake , I covered with fondant and use the gumpaste figure that I had made last week. I had the gumpaste books, and paint them with luster dust and the cake turn out really nice. Here is the cake with chocolate frosting, before I covered with the lavender fondant ( she really likes that color).

Just to be clear..my friend is way prettier than the figure.

I also made 12 chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream to go with the cake.
