Pirate Cake

Hi dear friends, I hope you all are doing great. Around here we are getting ready for the fall, it has been windy and the warm nice weather is gone. This summer was very short.A long winter is ahead of us and I am getting ready to start complaining about the cold. The good thing is that this year we will be enjoying more the snow, I already can see my little girl playing around with her snow boots. Potty training has been good so far ( just in case you wanted to know) and baby Cami is talking more and more every day, just like her mom. The other night I guess, I was pushing the veggies too much at dinner time and she said " mami loca", yes in Spanish, she said I was crazy, it was really funny at the moment, which I won't think will be in a few years. My mom is stable, not better, not worse, just there. Work, bla, bla bla, the same. Regarding me I have done a few things lately that take my mind away from my every day routine. I took a wonderful Hydrangea Flower class with Ruth Drennan, it was awesome, I am actually thinking about posting a small tutorial, you know the usual with my broken English, thank God for spell check! A very special friend send me the most beautiful and unexpected gift, a camera!! ( thank you so much drear friend)so I have been taking pictures like there's no tomorrow... I am very happy. I have a few cake orders coming up, also some classes and this coming Saturday I will be going to the city for a Cake Business Seminar, I am really excited because I have a lot of questions. I really want to open something in the long future, so I want to get all the information out there. This week I'm making lots of butterflies, ladybugs, grasshoppers and more gumpaste details for a Garden theme Cake. Well, I have been a little busy as you can read. Here is my Pirate Cake that I did this weekend for one of my really good and talented friend's son's birthday party. The theme of the party was "Pirates" . This cake is actually vegan vanilla cake with vegan vanilla frosting because my friend's son has some allergies and we wanted him to enjoy his cake without any worries.
As you can read, I added my blog address to the picture, well there is a reason for that: Like many of you, or I don't know maybe I am the only one who does it, sometimes when I read a blog post I read the comments and sometimes a comment or blog name spark my interest and I end up visiting their blog, I have found really good blogs this way. Well, yesterday while I was browsing around with a simple click I end up in a blog post, very interesting...it had some pictures of "resents cake orders from miss bla, bla, bla and one of the pictures posted was MY CAKE with my daughter's name on it. I can't begging to tell you how mad I was... I would love to have the courage to copy and paste the email that I send to this blogger, button line is that within hours the blog post disappear along with the blog. Has this ever happen to you? because I thought this happen only to famous people, not a beginner like me. I always get inspiration from other cakes, but at least I give the credit to who ever made the cake. Oh, well!

I made the boat with rice crispy treats and then I covered with fondant. I used my modeling tools to get the wood effect on the fondant and then I painted the boat with Brown and copper food coloring. The little pirate I made with gumpaste, I got the idea from the cover of the Wilton Year Book. Well girls, I hope you like it. Have a great week.

You've been taking pictures! I am so glad you like your camera. I know you'll put it to good use.

It sounds like you have had a busy time too. The cake is amazing. It's no wonder someone stole your picture! Try not to worry too much about that stuff though, the work is yours even if they stole your pic. It's happened to me off and on and I and am ok with it now.

Esquire.com published one of my works last month and didn't pay me, but at least they asked for permission instead of just taking it.

Oh wow! great cake! I love that the boat is rice krispie treats! I bet it is lighter than a cake...what made you think to do that? Also, I totally agree with marking your pictures. I have been lazy and not marked mine...only a few and I have seen my images reproduced as well uncredited. It sucks!

This cake is awesome!!! That really stinks about somebody not giving you credit and simply stealing your image :O( I'd suggest moving your name up a bit, though, and making it more clear, just to be sure that they don't just cut it out via cropping. But then, what do I know???
