Family Time

Hi everybody! I hope you had a great long weekend. We certainly enjoyed every bit of it. My husband and I were off the same days and that is a miracle that doesn't happen often, so we decided just to have fun and relax. No cleaning, no laundry! Of course, I couldn't keep myself off cake related duties and I took some time to practice my peony flower.
Since I was feeling in a really good mood we decided to invite my husband's brothers. Repeat...I was in a really good mood!!!
This is my adorable Godson, he is 2 years old .Cook in training, hopefully he will be better cook than is uncles and dad.

My husband hanging out with his family. We got this tent at Wal-Mart, very cheap! ( tent has nothing to do with what I am saying, but I love it)

I took this picture the day before Memorial Day. We visited some old friends that were having a BBQ at their home.I didn't even go close the carrots. Chips with hummus, yummy.

Yummy sangria, I had 3 small glasses!! and I never drink, I have to say that I had my head spinning around for quite some time.

And of course, a lovely day can't pass by without an accident!!!

Cami es the only one in the family without cellulite, so I decided to embrace her legs!!

This is a board that I covered in fondant last night. I have a graduation cake order for Sunday. I am so excited because is a total different cake, compare to the ones I had made before. It is a Topsy Turby Cake, hot pink and lime green will be the colors that I am going to use. I am also making 24 cupcakes to go with it. I have never done a cake like that, so wish me luck.

This will be the cake topper. A simple monogram made with gumpaste.
I guess for now that's all girls. This weekend, on Sunday, I will be having a BBQ at my apartment. I am making some burgers, hot dogs, chicken and also a couple of side dishes that my good friend Laura suggested me.My big 35 is on Monday so I thought it will be fun to have some friends over. I am debating if I should make a little birthday cake for myself, I just don't know if it is weir. Please let me know what should I do??? Help....

Nutrition School Graduation Cake

This is my first time making a cake with a book shape. I was pretty nervous carving and putting the fondant. I didn't have red fondant so I had to color white fondant with red it took me like 45 minutes to accomplish the color. I am not really proud of the hand writing, next time I would definitely do a couple things different. The white book is Red Velvet Cake and the Red Book is chocolate cake. When I delivered the cake this morning and my client saw the cake she was speechless and very happy with my work. I can't begin to tell you how happy I was with her reaction.
First time making fruits and vegetables.

I hope you like it, let me know what you think. Thank you. Kathia

Medical Theme Graduation Cake

On Wednesday, I got a phone call from one of my good friend's boss ( and owner of the company that I used to work for 7 months ago)asking for two cakes for today. I was not only shock for her order because this means a lot to me, but also wondering if I had enough time to do what she was asking for. After hesitating for one second I said yes, and started to think what I was going to do. This particular cake was for her daughter's in law who just graduated from medical school. I have to be honest and tell you that I shouldn't take credit for this cake idea. This is a version of a cake that Melody Brandon from My Sweet and Saucy made.(See link to her site under My Favorite Blogs) Melody is a very talented pastry chef and she is in the process of opening her own dessert studio. If you have time check her website and if you live close to where she is opening her studio do me a favor and go and buy and eat some desserts for me. Thank you. Decorations are made with gumpaste. I made them on Wednesday night.

I had no idea or time to look online in how to make the needle, so I use a took pick and painted it with silver luster dust.

The cake is dark chocolate with Swiss meringue vanilla buttercream.

Busy Week

Hi everyone, I am finally back. I have been so busy this week that I haven't had time to sit an post any of my latest projects. This was graduation week and I had 3 cakes and 25 cupcakes to bake and decorate. The cupcakes and the small cake were for my great friend Lauretta's son. My initial idea for the cake was to make a toll round cake and put the logo of his school on it, but it turns out that my friend was leaving on Friday and she was going to have the party for him on Sunday. I really didn't want a fondant cake to sit out for 3 days, so I decided to cover the cake with meringue buttercream and make a couple decorations in fondant, something really simple, as she requested. The cupcakes were chocolate with Kahlua and coffee buttercream, the buttercream was good but next time I will use espresso instead of strong coffee. This is the little cake. I was supposed use red for the letters, well mixing colors at 12 am is not a good idea. I thought the color was red but at day light it looked like dark pink, sorry!! My friend liked it any way, and since I was really tired, my husband miraculously had Thursday night off and my birthday is coming up my friend offered to babysit for a couple of hours . So, mua, when to the movies!!! I was sitting watching the movie and I couldn't believe it, I haven't gone to see a movie in..let's see...almost to years? Ummm, it sounds almost like Camilla's age.

These are the flowers that I made last week. I am really proud of this picture, I am really bad when I take pictures, they are dark all the time, I guess is because I take them at night and my camera is a little old. I might need a little help with that in the future.

I had some left over royal icing and I wanted to use it, so I decorated these cookies really quick. I have a project coming up and I started to brainstorms some ideas.
Thanks girls for reading my blog.

Simple Cupcakes

Simple cupcakes that I made for a friend. It was a short notice order, so I made vanilla cake and vanilla buttercream, I used some flowers that I had from a previous cake.

Please excuse the cupcake liners, I didn't have any plain and I had to use what ever I had left from Valentine's Day.

Sweet treat ready to go.

This week is a busy week, a lot of graduation orders. I started working last night, baking and working in some gumpaste accessories for the cakes coming up. Starting today I won't be sleeping, seriously! you guys already know that I only work at night. I have cupcakes and a cake due tomorrow afternoon. 2 graduation cakes for Saturday and a cupcake order for Sunday. Auxilio!!!

Flower Class With Ruth Drennan

Last Sunday I had the pleasure to take a private class with Ruth Drennan in her house, like I said in another post she is a very talented, humble and famous New York cake designer. Her cakes have been published in a lot of magazines and she was one of the cake designers in the show " Amazing Wedding Cakes" running in We TV. The flowers that she taught me was the STEPHANOTIS flower, I am still learning how to pronoun that word, so far I can't hardly write it. Here are some pics of the process. In this pic we are steaming the flowers, according to Ruth, correct me if I am wrong, the moist comes out and bring shine to the flower. After that we let it sit for a little and then we apply a little bit of pearl luster dust.
I forgot the name of this tools! very useful.

Petal pad with holes( da! pretty obvious)

Here we are drying the flowers. I still have to post the finish flower, but I have been busy this week, so that will be in another post.

Thank you girls for stopping by.

Happy Late Mother's Day

A little late, I know, but I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. I certainly had a great day with my baby.We went and got our pictures taken, I really didn't want to be on them but Camilla refuses to pose by herself so I didn't have much of a choice and then we had lunch together . We spend the day by ourselves, daddy was working ( as always), so it was mommy and me time ( of course, as always!) Being a mom is the hardest job I ever had, buy the most rewarding, I love seeing my little girl learning new things everyday.

White and Gold 50th Birthday Cake

Hand made tiara. I painted it with disco gold luster dust and then I attached white dragees just to make look more elegant. The letters were also hand made with gumpaste and then painted.

Side view. I only use disco gold to paint the bow and loops, I just wanted a little extra sparkle.

Final Cake.

Well, you might be wondering who the mystery client is...
A GUY ( don't ask, make your own conclusions)
Regarding the giveaway... I guess it wasn't interesting for anybody. But so you know I made 120 little white balls and I used only 96. I will save the gift card for a very nice project that I have coming up and I will increase the price next time.
Thank you Butter Yum for trying.

50th Birthday Party Cake

All three tiers of this birthday cake included vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream. Here are some pic that I took of the process. I crumb coat the cakes, put them back in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. I covered all the cakes with white fondant.

Wood dowels for support, next time I will use plastic.

I made the bow and loops using fondant since was a last minute accessories. Here is the bow and loops drying.

Cake ready to decorate.
